Hi Coco & Mainers!
School is starting and summer is coming to an end. Sometimes the feeling of fall being around the corner can be fun and can bring feelings of excitement, but it can also bring around the sadness that comes with the end of summer. To help with that feeling (and to help you bide your time before major holidays) below are some minor holidays you can celebrate either by yourself or with your friends and family!
September 10 - Sewing Machine Day

Use this fun holiday to try out a sewing project, or even learn how to use a sewing machine if you haven't already! Check to see if your local Joann's is open to beginner sewing classes, or, if someone you know has a sewing machine, ask if you could borrow it for a small craft!
September 13 - Fortune Cookie Day

The perfect way to celebrate this is simple - go to your favorite Chinese restaurant! Or, if you want to try something that's a bit challenging, make your own fortune cookies with this recipe.
September 19 - National Dance Day

To celebrate this holiday, see if there are any local dance classes available in your city or Zumba classes available. Don't want to dance in public? Check out Just Dance videos on YouTube, where you can dance to some of the classics without a game console!
September 22 - Hobbit Day

This day is perfect for lovers of the works of JRR Tolkien! Set aside some time to watch a movie from The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, or even one of the two The Hobbit movies. Get the party started with some special hobbit recipes, like these Twice Baked Honey Cakes, this recipe for Lembas, or this recipe for Farmer Maggot's Cabbage and Sausage Soup .
October 12 - National Gumbo Day
The best way to celebrate this amazing holiday is to eat a hot bowl of gumbo. Find a southern food restaurant in your area, or even make your own with this authentic
recipe provided by a reddit poster. To add some more festivity, (and if you can't visit New Orleans at this time) watch
The Princess and the Frog,
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button or
Interview with the Vampire (the last two are an added bonus due to Brad Pitt).
October 17 - Wear Something Gaudy Day
Take this day to wear that one thing in your closet you have been afraid of wearing! Pluck up the courage to wear your flashiest, most sparkling, fabulous piece of clothing! Don't forget to show it off on social media so others can be aware of this fun and fashionable holiday.
October 27 - National Tell A Story Day
Who here loves scary stories (raises both hands)? Take this holiday and the spooky month of October to tell some scary stories to those you love (varying in creepiness depending on age of course). For kids, some of the best ones you can find are at this
site, and for older individuals, head to this
subreddit for some long (and warning, sometimes disturbing) stories or this
site.
November 3 - Housewife Day
The term 'housewife' is a bit antiquated, and this holiday (while it aims to honor stay-at-home moms, which is a great thing!) can sometimes feel trapped in time. To honor this holiday in a modern way, you can bake something or make something special for the stay at home mom in your life, OR... plan a Real Housewives night with your girlfriends! Pick a Bravo Housewives Franchise to watch (sticking to key episodes), and plan some amazing food to go a long with it. Bonus points for dressing up as your favorite real housewife!
November 19 - Have a Bad Day Day
The origins of this day are a bit strange... it was apparently created so retail workers could tell a customer to have a bad day instead of a good day? Whatever the reasoning, we are saying that this day could be used as a kind of reward day if you had a bad day. What would you do to make yourself feel better if you were having a bad day? Do it!
These are just a few holidays that you can celebrate this fall! Head to
this website to find some more. Thanks for reading! XOXO
