Hi Coco & Mainer's! It has been a long time since our last post (things have been QUITE busy), so we thought we would put a little blog post out there to showcase how we style for photoshoots and how we help transition items between seasons. This can even show you a little how to style your own outfits, if you so desire (or just continue the way you are stylin'; individual self expression is important!). Let's take you on a journey and show you how we tend to style our flatlays and how you can take items from summer to fall in a snap!
Important Items
When styling for photo shoots or our website, there are a couple items that need to accompany the main product to really show the customer (you) the 'wearability' of the garment. The items are:
- Some type of denim
- Jewelry
- A purse/bag
- Simple, yet impactful footwear
The usage of these items changes with the main focal garment of the shoot, but these are all the accessories we tend to use. Seems pretty easy right? If you are a little confused as to why we use these types of items in most of our flatlays, see next how they can help amplify a clothing item!
The item above is our V-Neck Tie Dye Top. In this example, we have every single important item we mentioned previously pictured with the top. The denim shows how the top looks with everyday wear, and the shorts go perfectly with the summery feel of the tie dye. The sandals accomplish the same by showcasing how summery this top can be! The rest of the items, like earrings and the bag, show that a casual top like this can easily be dressed up in a trendy and vibrant way.
Now take a look at a different way we styled this top:
This is from an Instagram post and a Style Files picture on our website. The top is now completely dressed down and made ideal for autumn! The denim piece is now a distressed pair of skinny jeans, showing how this top can be taken into cooler weather. The pink in the tie dye pops with the accessorizing pink windbreaker, replacing the pink pop of the earrings in the previous photo. Simple, yet impactful white sneakers really let the colors shine, and a fun pink soda helps to ground the look.
So yeah, this could be all common sense, but it's also a helpful reminder that you can take plenty of items from season to season seamlessly with just the right accessories.
Here is another example:
This is our 'Start Nowhere, Go Everywhere Tee', and you can clearly see we don't have jewelry or a bag paired with it. This is to showcase how casual a tee can be, and also lets the main focus (the desert picture on the front) catch your eye first. This tee looks like its all settled into the beginning of the fall season with the help of dark jeans, suede boots, and a darker wood background. To take it further into fall, I would also probably add a cardigan behind the tee and maybe a gold accented piece of jewelry for a little extra something.
Here is a picture of the tee styled a little differently:
This is the same tee styled for summer! We brought back the denim shorts and sandals, and added a raffia bag for a little summer bohemian flair. A lighter background also helps to show how this top can look great for brighter summer days.
To sum up transitioning between seasons, you really just need to focus on layering and proper accessories.
Model Styles
We have a few models in rotation that we love to use (and we are always looking for more!) because they each bring something different to our clothing. These models have their own looks and way they style a shoot-- its something we love to showcase! Let's take a look to see how they might style a fall item!
This is Kylie, one of our models! She styled our Leopard Detail Cardigan perfectly to show how it can transition from season to season. The longer cardigan is perfect for fall, but pairing it with distressed denim shorts and a cropped tank shows how versatile this cardigan really is. The hat, sunglasses, backpack, and jewelry really showcase an everyday way to wear this sweater.
This is Paityn, another one of our amazing models! She really showed a cool way to style this preppy sweater by pairing it with lace up boots and light washed distressed skinnies! Paityn has shown how easy it is to take an article of clothing from one style to another with just a few changes in accessories.
This is our former model, Kyla. This Camo T-Shirt Dress has been discontinued, but was easily transitioned into fall with the addition of over-the-knee boots! It could be dressed back to summer with just a pair of sandals and a ponytail.
To close out this post, here are a few more pictures that show how we decide to style certain items for shoots. How do you think they can be styled for different seasons?
